This is reported by the Washington Post, citing its own sources.
Thus, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio released a statement on Friday indicating that Washington has "proposed a straightforward historical resolution at the UN" and urged other nations to support it.
"By backing this resolution, we affirm that this conflict is horrific, that the UN can help bring it to an end, and that peace is achievable. We firmly believe that the time has come to commit to ending the war," the statement reads.
However, WP notes that in Kyiv, this initiative was seen as an attempt to limit any accountability for Russia regarding the war. They also interpreted the U.S. statement as "nearly pro-Russian" and rejected it.
Recall that earlier, the U.S. "indicated" that it might halt international efforts to hold Russia accountable for war crimes committed in Ukraine, particularly withdrawing from the establishment of a special tribunal regarding the Russian Federation.
