Russia Threatens Moldova

Lavrov emphasized that Russia is prepared to "protect its citizens, peacekeeping forces, and military personnel" in the region. He also mentioned the warehouses in Kolbasna in his address.

"We want to warn the 'hotheads' in Chisinau against attempts to use the energy crisis for a forceful resolution of the Transnistrian issue. Russia will respond appropriately to any provocations and will ensure the protection of its citizens and military warehouses in Kolbasna," Lavrov stated.

Additionally, Lavrov believes that Russia plays a "decisive role in ensuring peace" in the region, highlighting the "professionalism" of its peacekeepers in the unrecognized PMR.

Reason for Lavrov's Statement

It is noteworthy that these statements came amid calls from Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the country. Chisinau asserts that the presence of Russian military forces is illegal and hinders a long-term resolution of the crisis in Transnistria.
