This is reported by CNN citing a senior advisor to Harris.
According to the candidate's assistant, she congratulated her opponent on the victory and "discussed the importance" of a peaceful transfer of power and the need to "be a president for all Americans."
Updated at 22:28. Donald Trump's representatives confirmed his conversation with Harris, reports CBS News.
They state that Trump acknowledged the "strength, professionalism, and perseverance" of his opponent throughout the campaign. They also mention that both leaders agreed on the "importance of uniting the country."
Harris is expected to deliver a speech at 16:00 Washington time, which will be 23:00 in Kyiv, at her alma mater — Howard University. This will be her first public appearance since the elections.
Meanwhile, Trump has managed to secure victory in another "swing" state — Michigan, adding 15 electoral votes to his tally. The necessary 270 votes were achieved by the Republican after winning in Wisconsin.
Currently, Trump has 292 electoral votes. Counting continues in Nevada, Arizona, Alaska, and Maine. Preliminary results indicate that the politician is winning in the first three states, while Harris may claim Maine.
With victories in Michigan and Pennsylvania, Trump has broken the "blue wall" — states that were once Democratic strongholds, all of which supported Trump in 2016 but later voted for Democrat Joe Biden in 2020.
Trump announced his victory to supporters early on November 6. He has already received congratulations from several world leaders, including the presidents of France and Ukraine, as well as the prime ministers of the UK, Israel, Hungary, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Media reports suggest that Russian leader Vladimir Putin secretly congratulated Donald Trump. Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry publicly stated that they would work with the new American administration while "firmly defending national interests."
It is expected that Republicans will also achieve success in the Senate elections — the upper chamber of Congress, and they have a chance to maintain control over the House of Representatives.
