This is reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The fighters took an oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people at a training center of the Armed Forces of Poland. Legion command representative Petr Horkusha mentioned that for the volunteers, this was a significant moment, as they made the decision to defend Ukraine "consciously and resolutely."
"The unit is being formed from highly motivated warriors for whom defending the Motherland from the aggressor is a matter of honor," Horkusha noted.
Now, the servicemen have begun an intensive training course that includes firearms training. Specifically, they will be practicing close combat scenarios.
The volunteers will also study tactical medicine, mine safety, topography, and other subjects. The training is conducted by Polish instructors.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, after signing a bilateral security agreement with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, announced that Kyiv and Warsaw agreed to form a volunteer military unit from Ukrainian citizens residing in EU countries.
He stated that the Ukrainian Legion will train in Poland and be equipped by partners. In July, it was reported that allegedly several thousand Ukrainians had already joined the legion. At that time, it was also mentioned that preparations for the first Ukrainian brigade had seemingly begun in Poland.
However, later on, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski denied this information. According to him, there was not enough volunteers to form a brigade.
