Rasmussen stated that Greenland could become independent if its residents wish, but it is unlikely to become a state of the USA.

"We are fully aware that Greenland has its own ambitions. If they come to fruition, Greenland will become independent, although it is unlikely to have ambitions of becoming a federal state within the United States," — emphasized the Danish Foreign Minister.

In discussions with journalists, he added that the increasing concern of the USA regarding security in the Arctic is "completely justified" and connected to the activities of Russia and China in the region.

"I don't believe we are experiencing a foreign policy crisis. We are open to dialogue with the Americans about how we can cooperate even more closely than we do now to ensure the realization of American ambitions," — the minister added.

It is worth noting that Greenland is an autonomous constituent country within the Kingdom of Denmark and the largest island on the planet, situated between the Arctic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.
