The first deputy chairman of the KCCA, Nikolai Povoroznik, shared this information during a roundtable discussion titled "Ensuring the Reliable Operation of Public Transport During Air Alerts in Kyiv," as reported by a correspondent from Novini.LIVE.
Povoroznik mentioned that the suspension of public transport during air alerts in Kyiv causes significant damage. For the year 2024, the capital's budget is expected to incur losses of approximately 8 billion UAH due to such "downtime." This year's losses are likely to increase.
"When we talk about losses, they are real. Last year, around 8 billion UAH was allocated for subsidizing public transport. This year, the estimate is over 11 billion UAH, with 9 billion UAH currently planned," the official stated.
Additionally, it was noted that the meeting also addressed the role of public transport in ensuring resilience, defense capability, and economic development in Kyiv; an analysis of transport expenses, and exploring ways to ensure the reliable operation of public transport during air alerts in Kyiv.
We remind you that recently, the KCCA made a statement regarding the movement of metro trains over bridges during alerts. Before making any changes, the authorities will consider the opinions of the military.
On the eve, Kyiv City Council member Andriy Vitrenko stated that officials prepared a decision regarding the cancellation of public transport stops during air alerts in Kyiv.
