In Kropyvnytskyi, a surgeon who is a member of the Military Medical Commission was detained for allegedly receiving $5,000 from a local resident in exchange for a certificate of unfitness for military service, according to police reports.
In Dnipro, the head of a local hospital department has been suspected of accepting bribes for diagnosing serious illnesses in the close relatives of conscripts.
In the Kharkiv region, another official from the Medical and Social Expert Commission has been implicated in a large-scale draft evasion scheme uncovered by the Security Service in October of this year.
According to the special service, a rehabilitation doctor falsified the medical histories of her clients to grant them disability status.
The suspects have been informed of charges under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
If their guilt is proven, they face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported on searches conducted in several regional prosecutor's offices, hospitals, and Medical and Social Expert Commissions, where the issuance of certificates showing signs of forgery had previously been recorded. Medical documentation and personal files were seized.
They also noted that a service investigation is ongoing regarding potential abuses by prosecutors for obtaining disability groups, which covers all regions, specialized prosecutor's offices, and the central office.
As of today, 523 prosecutors with disabilities have been identified across all levels of the prosecutor's office.
