In Ukraine, a key rule for drivers will change starting January 1
Beginning January 1, 2025, Ukraine will reform its automobile insurance system. These changes aim to provide better protection for drivers and simplify the process of receiving insurance payouts after traffic accidents.
According to uamotors.com.ua, the innovations will involve the introduction of direct damage settlement. This means that drivers will no longer depend on insurance companies to receive compensation for damages resulting from traffic accidents.
Additionally, the amounts of insurance payouts will increase. In the case of injuries to individuals in a traffic accident, the maximum payout will be 500,000 hryvnias and up to 250,000 hryvnias for damaged property. Experts suggest that these amounts may rise to levels seen in Europe.
An important innovation will involve the use of original spare parts for cars up to 5 years old. Older vehicles will be repaired using high-quality equivalents.
Car owners will also have more freedom in choosing service stations (STOs) for repairs.
However, along with these changes, the cost of mandatory insurance will increase. It is important to note that purchasing a policy in 2024 will not guarantee higher payouts – these will depend on the date of policy issuance, rather than the date of the insured event.
