In South Ukraine, on the road "Blagoveshchenskoye - Nikolaev," at European Street, a collision occurred between a Volkswagen Transporter and a Hyundai H-1.
The accident took place on Sunday, December 15, at around 18:20, as reported by the Nikolaev region police.
As a result of the traffic incident, two passengers from the Hyundai, a 34-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man, died at the scene. A 32-year-old passenger from the Volkswagen and a nine-year-old child from the Hyundai sustained varying degrees of injuries and were transported to a medical facility.
After examination, the Volkswagen driver was found to have 0.6 promille of alcohol in his system.
The police investigators classified the incident under Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, "Violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles by individuals driving in a state of intoxication."
The 30-year-old driver of the Volkswagen has been detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and the question of announcing suspicion against him is currently being considered.
The penalty under this article includes imprisonment for up to 12 years, along with a driving ban for a period of seven to ten years.
Currently, police are establishing all the circumstances and causes of the incident, and relevant examinations have been appointed. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
