In Mykolaiv region, two people died due to a drunk driver: a resident of Vinnytsia has been sent to pre-trial detention
The investigating judge of the Central District Court of Mykolaiv, Volodymyr Liashenko, reviewed the petition for a preventive measure against a 30-year-old resident of Vinnytsia, suspected of committing a criminal offense under part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
This information was reported by the court’s press service.
According to the materials of the petition, on December 15, 2024, at around 6 PM, the suspect, driving a “Volkswagen Transporter” in a state of intoxication, was traveling along the N-24 highway within the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk. He subsequently veered into oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with a Hyundai H-1 vehicle.
As a result of the accident, a 39-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, who were in the Hyundai, lost their lives. Their 9-year-old daughter sustained injuries and is currently in the intensive care unit of a hospital in a coma.
During the court session, the suspect did not contest being a participant in the accident. He requested the court to impose a preventive measure of house arrest.
His defense attorney supported his position, pointed out the lack of risks, and requested the court to apply a preventive measure of house arrest or to set a minimal bail amount.
After hearing the opinions of the parties and examining the materials of the petition, investigating judge Volodymyr Liashenko decided to impose a preventive measure of detention without establishing a bail amount.
