"Don't jump to conclusions": Zelensky clarifies Trump's remarks about Ukraine joining NATO.

In Ukraine, there are calls not to jump to conclusions about what U.S. policy will look like after Donald Trump takes office. This came after the elected president hinted that Ukraine should not become part of NATO.

This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a meeting with Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen. His remarks were reported by Ukrinform.

"Remember, Ukraine said that Patriot systems can only be in NATO countries? Either we have long been in NATO, or we should not make hasty conclusions. This has been the case with Patriot systems, missile systems, and other NATO-standard weapons," he said.

Zelensky believes one of the reasons for the Russian invasion is that Ukraine is not a NATO member. He added that within the Alliance, there are countries opposed to our country's membership — the U.S., Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia.

"If we speak openly, we need to pay attention and say honestly — we have not been seen there. I think this is one of the reasons we are at war. Because there was no fear that Ukraine would align with anyone. Putin understood that no one would stand up for Ukraine," he added.

At the same time, the head of state emphasizes that currently some European countries would like to see Ukrainians return home, but this is impossible until Ukraine has security guarantees.

"We want specific security guarantees and are asking for this from our American and European allies. I will discuss this with the President of the United States. Do not make immediate conclusions," Zelensky said.

As previously reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Ukraine is ready to take a vacant seat in the EU and NATO if Hungary decides instead to become a member of the CIS or CSTO.
