Zelensky: U.S. military aid to Ukraine has not been halted.

He made this statement during a press conference with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, reports the channel "We are Ukraine."

"I know there are some limitations on 90 days of humanitarian programs. I am aware that there are a large number of institutions worldwide supported by the U.S. government. I can only say that Ukraine may not receive as much. I am focused on military assistance; it has not been halted, thank God," the president stated.

It should be noted that earlier several media outlets reported that the U.S. State Department issued an order to "cease operations" for all existing foreign aid and suspended new assistance. This will also affect some humanitarian projects for Ukraine.

Thus, the New York Times found out that the Department of Homeland Security ordered the suspension of several programs that allowed immigrants to temporarily settle in the U.S. The publication confirmed that this also applies to U4U, which more than 150,000 Ukrainians had used by September 2023.

At the same time, Politico reported that the new directive seems to include military support for Ukraine. In the Pentagon, they explained to Ostap Yarysh that the military support order does not pertain to this.

Additionally, a journalist noted, citing sources, that the directive might refer to the FMF program (Foreign Military Financing). Last year, the U.S. Congress allocated $1.6 billion for it, and these funds were spent back in May. However, the two main programs — PDA and USAI — through which Ukraine receives military assistance, are operating without changes.

Need more context?

Previously, U.S. President Trump decided to suspend all American foreign aid for 90 days. The aid programs would first be reviewed for compliance with Trump's policies. At that time, the Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council explained that this does not affect military assistance to Ukraine.

It is worth remembering that during the election campaign, Trump stated that he would stop financial assistance to Ukraine, calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "the best salesman among all politicians who ever lived."

After his reelection, he suggested that under his presidency, Ukraine would likely not receive as much aid as it had from the previous administration.
