Zelensky on talks with Putin: We shouldn't be alone; right now, they would be disadvantageous for us.
Президент Украины Владимир Зеленский

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this in an interview with "Ukrainian Radio."

According to him, under the current circumstances in which Ukraine finds itself — "not reinforced by some important elements" — any negotiations with Russia will be "losing from the start."

"Therefore, without a doubt, there is no point in being at these negotiations from a weak position," Zelensky believes.

He emphasized that the stance of the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump is crucial, but he is convinced that the U.S. is currently on Ukraine's side.

Additionally, he assured that he is not being pressured into negotiations, and Trump has stated that he supports Ukraine and wants to help.

"It seems to me that we have proven that the rhetoric of 'sit down and listen' does not work with us. […] They (partners — ed.) understand what they are talking about, with which country and which president. Consequently, there is no such tone in the conversation.", Zelensky says.

Meanwhile, Russian leader Vladimir Putin does not seek peace, although he is ready to sit down at the negotiating table with leaders of other countries. In the opinion of the Ukrainian president, he aims to break his political isolation.

"And it is beneficial for him. To sit down, talk, and not reach any agreements. […] It is advantageous for him to negotiate under capitulatory conditions from our side, but nobody will allow him to do that," Zelensky stated.

Possibility of Peace Negotiations

Earlier, Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak stated that for negotiations with Russia to begin, it must retreat to positions before the start of the full-scale war, and the initiation of dialogue between Ukraine and Russia will not signify the end of the war. According to him, the prerequisite for restoring peace is the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the sovereign territory of Ukraine.

At the same time, U.S. officials have stated that the decision to begin negotiations should be made by President Volodymyr Zelensky, but Washington is ready to support him in this.

Later, Fox News, citing its own sources, reported that newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump may "soon" appoint a peace envoy to lead negotiations for ending the war between Ukraine and Russia.
