"The war won't end quickly." Zelensky discussed Trump's role in negotiations and more.

U.S. President Donald Trump genuinely wants to end the war in Ukraine, but he himself is unsure of all the details on how to achieve this. Economic pressure could expedite this process.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made this statement in an interview with the Italian publication Il Foglio. In it, he discussed whether security guarantees for Ukraine are possible without U.S. involvement.

"The U.S. President tells Russia it needs to end, or it will get worse. The war won't end quickly, but Trump has the ability to speed up the process through sanctions, economic pressure, and U.S. influence," — Zelensky stated.

Key statements from the president:

  • For now, I like Trump's tactics. He immediately sends a message – it will be worse for Russia;
  • Approximately 20,000 people were killed by Russians in Mariupol, but this is not precise data;
  • A total of about 19,500 children have been evacuated from Mariupol and the Kherson region;
  • We have an army of 800,000, while France has around 200,000. Without the U.S., guarantees from Europe will be insufficient;
  • Russia is no different from today’s Iran and North Korea. They only understand the language of strength;
  • The ban on negotiations with Russia applies to everyone except the President of Ukraine;
  • I would not want our people to walk around with weapons in hand, waiting for a new Russian offensive. We need guarantees from the U.S. and the EU;
  • Trump wants to end the war, but he himself does not know all the details on how to do it.

The president emphasized that the war brings nothing good and should be concluded. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has taken many lives.

"War only takes time, robs positive emotions. And you realize how much has been lost on this path. It has been taken away. Undoubtedly, evil must be defeated; otherwise, there will be another war: a second, third, fifth world war, etc. Therefore, we must defeat evil," — Zelensky stressed.

Earlier, "Telegraph" reported that Trump is ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, but on his own terms.
