On the evening of Monday, November 11, at the intersection of Central Avenue and 3rd Slobodskaya Street in Mykolaiv, a VAZ-2110 vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing the avenue.
This was reported by a correspondent from Novosti-N.
According to the ambulance staff, they were called to the scene of the accident due to an injured person; however, upon arrival, they only found a car with a shattered windshield. The paramedics attempted to locate the injured individual but were unsuccessful. Only the damaged VAZ was present at the intersection of the avenue and 3rd Slobodskaya.
The driver of the VAZ told reporters that he was traveling in the middle lane of the avenue from Sadovaya Street towards 6th Slobodskaya. At the intersection with 3rd Slobodskaya, a young man began to run across the avenue from left to right in the direction of the vehicle.
The driver claims that the young man was running against a red traffic light. His statement is corroborated by a witness to the accident. The man recounted that he was also crossing the avenue in the last seconds of the “green” light, then heard a loud noise and saw the young man being thrown away from the car. He wanted to approach the injured person to help, but he was too late—the injured individual sprang up and fled into the yards on 3rd Slobodskaya. The man tried to chase after the injured person, but was unsuccessful. Additionally, the driver mentioned that the pedestrian appeared to be around 15 years old and, in his opinion, was in a state of intoxication, though it was unclear whether it was from alcohol or drugs.
At this moment, the ambulance has left the scene of the incident. The VAZ and a patrol unit remain at the intersection, trying to ascertain the circumstances. Due to the accident, traffic on the avenue is hindered.
