He stated this in a comment to Reuters.
However, according to Gatilov, negotiations "should be based on the realities of Russian achievements."
"Trump promised to resolve the Ukrainian crisis in one night. Fine, let him try. But we are realistic people and, of course, understand that this will never happen. However, if he starts or suggests something to initiate the political process, we would be more than happy," said the Russian diplomat.
Additionally, Gatilov mentioned that Trump's reelection opens new opportunities for dialogue between Russia and the United States, which, according to him, has been lacking in recent years.
Earlier, the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, stated that for negotiations with Russia to begin, it must retreat to positions prior to the full-scale war, and the start of dialogue between Ukraine and the RF will not signify the end of the war. He noted that the only prerequisite for restoring peace is the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the sovereign territory of Ukraine.
At the same time, officials in the U.S. indicated that the decision to commence negotiations should be made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, although Washington is ready to support him in this matter.
Later, Fox News, citing its own sources, reported that newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump may "soon appoint" a peace envoy to lead negotiations for ending the war between Ukraine and Russia.
