In Kropyvnytskyi, a surgeon who is a member of the Military Medical Commission was detained for allegedly receiving 5,000 dollars from a local resident in exchange for a conclusion of unfitness for military service, according to police.
In Dnipro, the head of a local hospital department has been suspected. Law enforcement claims she accepted bribes for diagnosing severe illnesses in the close relatives of conscripts.
In Kharkiv region, another official from the MSEC has been implicated in a large-scale draft evasion scheme, which was exposed by the SBU in October of this year.
According to the security service, the rehabilitation doctor falsified her clients' medical histories to assign disability status.
The suspects have been informed of their charges under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
If their guilt is proven, they face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported on searches conducted in several regional prosecutor's offices, hospitals, and MSEC, where the issuance of falsified certificates had been previously recorded. Medical documentation and personal files were seized.
They also add that an internal investigation is ongoing regarding possible abuse by prosecutors to obtain disability groups, covering all regions, specialized prosecutor's offices, and the central apparatus.
As of today, 523 prosecutors with disabilities have been identified across all levels of the prosecutor's offices.
