Protests erupted in Abkhazia following the detention of opposition activists, with equipment being deployed near the "president's" building.

This is reported by Echo of the Caucasus.

The Attorney General of the unrecognized republic, Adgur Agrba, stated that on November 11, five citizens were detained following an extraordinary session of parliament.

They allegedly "committed illegal actions against a member of the republic's parliament." According to local Telegram channels, this concerns the deputy Almas Akaba.

It later became known that the detained opposition members were Omar Smira, Garry Kokaya, Almaskhan Ardzimba, Ramaz Djopua, and Aslan Gvaramia, who were returning from a public meeting in Gudauta. The opposition labeled their detention as illegal and inconsistent with what had occurred.

“The very style of the detention was as if they were apprehending particularly dangerous criminals. If someone had invited them for a conversation at the State Security Service, they would have gone there themselves,” stated one of the opposition leaders, Adgur Ardzimba.

Meanwhile, the pro-government Telegram channel AMRA-life reported that the opposition members allegedly "called on the public in Gudauta for a violent change of power."

The Attorney General also mentioned that after their detention, relatives and other opposition members attempted a violent incursion into the building of the State Security Service of Abkhazia, demanding the immediate release of those detained.

In light of this, protests began in Abkhazia, during which three key roads leading to the capital, Sukhum, were blocked — the Gumistinsky Bridge, the Lower Gumistinsky Bridge, and the Kodori Bridge.

It is worth noting that earlier, the Abkhaz opposition announced a rally on November 15 — at which time the parliament of the unrecognized republic is set to consider the ratification of the investment agreement between Abkhazia and Russia.
