Today, February 22, according to the New Julian calendar, Christians commemorate the martyrs of Apamea, Mauritius and 70 saints. According to the old calendar, the holiday fell on March 7.
Mauritius was born in Syria and was a military commander. At the same time, he secretly believed in Jesus Christ. This was discovered by the pagans, who informed Emperor Galerius. Thus, Mauritius was captured and tortured for a long time. The 70 soldiers serving under Mauritius decided not to betray their leader. Therefore, they accepted punishment alongside him.
So, Mauritius and his warriors were smeared with honey and left in a swamp. For 10 days, they were bitten by mosquitoes, and then the men were executed.
This day is the Universal (Meat-Fare) Parent Saturday. Believers remember their deceased relatives and go to church. In ancient times, people observed the birds. If starlings, rooks, and swallows arrived on this day, it indicated an early spring.
Angel Day is celebrated by Peter, Athanasius, Philip, Theodore, Michael, and Anfisa.
Earlier, "Telegraph" reported which zodiac signs will soon see their personal life improve. There are only five of them.
