The appointment of Ghegset is mentioned in Trump's statement, as well as by CNN.
According to sources from the network, the choice of the TV host for the position of head of the Pentagon came as a surprise, as initially Ghegset was not among the candidates. However, CNN's sources also revealed that Trump has known Ghegset for a long time, has always considered him "smart," and was impressed by his career.
"Pete is tough, smart, and truly believes that America comes first. With Pete at the helm, America's enemies will be on alert, our military will be great again, and America will never back down," described him the elected president himself.
Trump also appreciates that Ghegset is a military veteran, and as informed individuals have shared, the newly elected president of the United States briefly considered him for the position of head of the Department of Veterans Affairs during his previous presidential term.
"Trump also believes that he (Ghegset) has the right appearance," said one of CNN's sources.
Ghegset has military service experience, having served in Afghanistan and Iraq, and has acted as an unofficial advisor to Trump for several years. In his book "War with Warriors," he criticized allowing women to hold combat positions, viewing it as a lowering of standards.
Additionally, Trump appointed businessmen Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to head the Department of Government Efficiency. According to the newly elected president, they will "pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy."
"Their work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026. A smaller government with greater efficiency and less bureaucracy will be the perfect gift for America on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence," added Trump.
Musk and Ramaswamy are known for their controversial statements about Ukraine. For instance, Musk claimed that the Revolution of Dignity was a "coup," and called for negotiations with Russia, arguing that if the war continues "long enough," Ukraine could supposedly lose Odessa.
Meanwhile, Vivek Ramaswamy asserted that Ukraine is not a democratic country because it allegedly "glorifies Nazis," and referred to the voting by the Verkhovna Rada to ban the Russian church as a "restriction on Christians."
The governor of South Dakota, Kristi Noem, known for her anti-Ukrainian statements, also received a position in Trump's government. She will head the Department of Homeland Security.
In 2014, she supported Ukraine and called for the U.S. to demonstrate unity in opposing Russian aggression, but by spring 2023, Noem labeled military aid to Ukraine as "an expensive strategic mistake."
