The agreement on mineral resources that U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned will begin to be developed after February 24. President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed to the United States to jointly explore Ukrainian minerals as part of his "victory plan" last September.
This was reported by the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, according to NHK. He stated that Ukraine is seeking specific security guarantees from the U.S.
"Following Zelensky's meeting with U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker, the Ukrainian government will start work on an expert group for signing the agreement with the U.S. beginning Monday," the report states.
Stefanchuk emphasizes that Ukraine is ready to cooperate with the U.S. regarding mineral resources but requires concrete security guarantees. The agreement must take into account the rights and interests of both countries.
According to Stefanchuk, Ukraine intends to engage in constructive discussions and aims to hold a summit with the U.S. as soon as possible.
It is worth noting that Zelensky was offered an "improved" version of the metals agreement. The new version includes significant changes and aligns with Ukrainian legislation.
