The U.S. has introduced its draft resolution to the UN marking the anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The United States has proposed its own draft resolution to the UN on the occasion of the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The document consists of three paragraphs and includes calls to end the "conflict" and establish lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.

According to Reuters, the U.S. submitted its draft resolution on February 21. In the document, the U.S. expresses regret over the loss of life during the "Russia-Ukraine conflict." The resolution notes that "the primary goal of the United Nations is to maintain international peace and security and to peacefully resolve disputes."

The document refers to the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine as a "conflict" and calls for its swift conclusion and the establishment of "lasting peace between Ukraine and the Russian Federation." As reported by the media, the U.S. draft notably does not mention the territories in Ukraine occupied by Russia. The new version of the resolution has a significant distinction — it lacks accusations against Moscow, whereas previously the U.S. supported documents that clearly identified Russia as the party that initiated the conflict.

How Russia Reacted to the U.S. Initiative

In turn, Russia proposed its own amendment to the document. It seeks to include the following wording: "calls for the swift cessation of the conflict, particularly by addressing its root causes, and further calls for lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia."

Russia's representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya praised the American initiative, describing it as "a good step." According to information from a Russian diplomat who wished to remain unnamed, Russia is prepared to support the U.S. resolution on the condition that its amendment is approved by the General Assembly. Nebenzya also confirmed that the American side had informed him in advance about the content of the document before sending it to all 193 members of the General Assembly.

As reported by "Telegraph," Republican senators have introduced a bill for a complete withdrawal of the U.S. from the UN. Lawmakers intend to present the document in the House of Representatives.
