Ruins of history: a glimpse into the Philharmonic and hotel in Odessa.

Novini.LIVE captured how the Bristol Hotel and the Odessa Philharmonic look after the Russian attack.

Strike on Odessa

The Russian missile strike on Odessa on the last day of January caused significant damage to historical monuments. Among the most affected sites are the legendary Bristol Hotel and the Odessa Regional Philharmonic, both located in the historical center of the city.

According to city authorities, the shockwave destroyed hundreds of square meters of stained glass, shattered windows and doors, and damaged the facades, historical finishes, and roofs of the buildings.

Bristol after the attack

The Bristol Hotel was built in 1899; it has survived wars and revolutions but was harmed by Russian invaders. Its luxurious facade is now destroyed, and plywood sheets have replaced the shattered windows.

Philharmonic after the attack

The Odessa Regional Philharmonic, an architectural gem that has hosted world music stars for over a century, has sustained significant damage. The building currently stands with broken windows. Decorative elements and debris have also been destroyed inside the concert hall.

19 architectural monuments damaged due to shelling

According to official reports, more than 20 buildings in the city center were damaged in the latest attack, including 19 historical monuments, residential buildings, and cultural institutions. Facades from the 19th and 20th centuries, which hold architectural value, have also been partially destroyed.

About 100 windows shattered

In total, around 100 damaged windows have been recorded in Odessa, affecting just two key buildings. Authorities and volunteers are already boarding up the damaged windows to prevent further destruction. Architects are assessing the scale of the damage and developing a restoration plan. UNESCO has expressed concern and may join efforts to restore cultural monuments. As a result of the attack, at least two cultural buildings under the organization's Convention have sustained serious damage.

"Our team is already working on the operational documentation of the damage incurred and is determining priority response measures in collaboration with Ukrainian authorities", states UNESCO's message.

Recall that the Odessa Regional Military Administration showed how the consequences of the Russian shelling look from above. The hotel building has been pierced through. Additionally, at the time of the ballistic strike, Norwegian diplomats were in the city.
