This was announced by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
They reported that the terrorist attack occurred on November 20. As a result of the explosion, one police officer was injured.
The men were recruited by Russian special services through Telegram channels that advertise “quick money.” Following the instructions of their Russian handlers, they filled explosives with nails and concealed them in a thermos, detonating it remotely using a mobile phone.
The perpetrators also installed hidden cameras to monitor the terrorist act in real-time.
According to the SBU, all five men acted independently. Among them was a 46-year-old resident of Kharkiv, who had previously served time for robbery and theft. It is noted that he initially purchased the components for the explosives, which he then hid in a pre-arranged stash.
After that, the other participants in the crime—aged 15, 16, 18, and 20—retrieved these components, manufactured the explosives, and then set up the cameras to activate them remotely.
SBU investigators have informed all the organizers of the terrorist act of their suspicion under part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—terrorist act committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy.
The offenders are currently in custody. They face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
