Could Putin launch another attack before 2028? The U.S. highlights risky aspects of Trump's Ukraine strategy.

The elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, has repeatedly stated that he can quickly end the war in Ukraine. However, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may take advantage of the Republican's peace initiatives for his own interests.

This was noted during a roundtable organized by the German Marshall Fund by expert Josh Rudolph, as reported by a correspondent from "Telegraph."

Rudolph pointed out that Donald Trump had discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before any contact with Putin.

"This was an important step", the expert assessed. He also reminded of Trump’s promises made during his election campaign.

"Trump stated that he would tell Putin to agree to a ceasefire, or else the U.S. would heavily arm Ukraine. At the same time, he also mentioned that he would tell Zelensky to agree to a ceasefire, or the U.S. would reduce aid. From that point, negotiations would develop. They would address issues such as the type of demilitarized zone, what security guarantees would be provided, and importantly — further supply of weapons from the West to Ukraine", he explained.

According to Rudolph's predictions, during potential negotiations, Putin will seek an agreement that allows Russia to regroup its forces for further aggression.

"In these negotiations and under the mentioned conditions, Putin will attempt to secure an agreement that gives him time to rearm and try to seize all of Ukraine again within the next few years, while Trump is still in power, to avoid repeating the previous mistake — waiting until Trump's term ends, after which he would face a more united alliance.

This is all happening at such an early stage of Trump's presidency that by 2028 there will be enough time for all this to unfold, or perhaps even during this term. However, the last thing Trump wants is a chaotic collapse similar to Afghanistan 2.0 during this time", Rudolph clarified.

He stated that the most crucial line in negotiations for the United States and its allies should be the commitment to arm Ukraine to the teeth with any necessary weapons.

"Other important issues will also matter, such as the absence of any official territorial concessions, even if Ukraine is not currently reclaiming those territories, as well as strict adherence to the demilitarized zone and security guarantees. Therefore, there is still a lot of work ahead, and it will take time", the expert added.

Let us recall that earlier "Telegraph" reported on two things that Biden can still do for Ukraine in his last two months in office.
