Lukashenko: Only Belarusian peacekeepers can ensure safety following the conflict with the "middle and elder brother."

He mentioned this during a conversation with journalists, a segment of which is published by the Telegram channel "Pool of the First," close to Lukashenko.

According to him, he does not care who European countries send to Ukraine — “whether they are black or yellow-bellied.” At the same time, Russian leader Vladimir Putin will be “not thrilled” about this, as it concerns a “five-digit” number of foreign troops.

“In the name of trust and justice, apart from the Belarusian army, they have nothing else. (…) For it to be as agreed upon, this [can be guaranteed] only by the Belarusian [army], there are no others. All the rest will pull either to the West or to the East,” said the Belarusian leader.

However, he also stated that he currently has no plans to send 70,000 of his troops as peacekeepers to Ukraine, although “only Belarusians can ensure normal relations between the middle and elder brother.”

Peacekeepers for Ukraine

Recall that back in February 2024, French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the deployment of his troops to Ukraine during a meeting he organized with partner countries of Kyiv in Paris. However, he noted at that time that the states had not yet reached a consensus on this issue.

In November, the French publication Le Monde reported that certain European leaders had again returned to the discussion about the possible deployment of Western troops to Ukraine due to the potential refusal of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump to provide assistance to Kyiv.

Meanwhile, American media circulated a plan for resolving the war in Ukraine, allegedly proposed by advisors to the newly elected U.S. president.

This plan, in particular, envisions the creation of a demilitarized zone along the frozen front line between Russia and Ukraine, with security there guaranteed by troops from European countries.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that partner troops in Ukraine could become one of the best tools to force Russia to peace. However, he emphasized that the European peacekeeping mission should not replace Ukraine's membership in NATO.

Earlier, there were statements about the readiness to send peacekeepers from Italy and Germany. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius noted that Russia must also agree to the European peacekeeping mission.

At the same time, Poland stated that they do not plan to send their troops.
