During the attack on Kyiv, children were not allowed into the NAU shelter. What do the university and police have to say? (video)

On February 1 in Kyiv, during an air raid alert and the threat of a ballistic missile strike, security guards at the National Aviation University (NAU) closed the entrance to the shelter, preventing dozens of people with children from entering. The rector, Ksenia Semenova, has already responded.

This was reported by advisor to the mayor of the Kyiv City Council, Dmitry Belotserkovets. He published a video circulating online, where a woman asks the guards why they are not allowing children into the shelter during the alert.

Semenova replied in the comments, pointing out that the men in the video are not university employees but contractors for the concert organizers who rented the hall in the university.

"Immediately after the incident, the security service of NAU addressed the issue and escorted people to the shelter. We have worked with the renter to ensure this does not happen again. All NAU shelters are available to anyone at any time," — she wrote.

In his address, the mayor's advisor noted that the university is under the supervision of the Cabinet of Ministers and the relevant ministry. However, this does not absolve the NAU leadership of responsibility for such actions.

What preceded this?

In the morning, a video surfaced in which a blogger stated that dance competitions were supposed to take place at NAU, but participants were not allowed into the shelter because "there was no order." Allegedly, the university administration instructed to "not let anyone into the shelter."

In response to the woman's remarks that there could be explosions and children might be scared, the guards replied: "When it starts to bang, then we will let you in."

At the same time, the police stated: "The shelter in the educational institution is located on the other side of the building, and the entrance to it was open. They were not allowed into the shelter, but specifically into the dance stage area, where events for children were supposed to take place, due to the air raid signal and the absence of tickets, which were later provided to the woman by the event organizers. The conflict was resolved on-site."

Earlier, "Telegraph" reported that in Kyiv, there are proposals to change transportation operations during alerts.
