The news that Ukraine has agreed to sign a new minerals deal with the United States has not gone unnoticed by Ukrainians. Although the full version of the document is not yet available, speculation online suggests that it does not appear to be viable.
In particular, Ukrainian blogger and one of the founders of "DemSokyra," Anton Shvets, noted that the document currently seems merely a way to showcase some victory to voters. He also pointed out that it will not lead to any lasting peace.
Blogger and businessman Roman Shraik also reported that he does not consider the document to be viable.
Blogger and serviceman Alexander Karpuk (Serzh Marko) compared the document to the Budapest Memorandum, which, as is known, guaranteed Ukraine's security but ultimately proved to be ineffective.
Media expert and former Deputy Minister of Information Policy (2017-2019) Dmitry Zolotukhin also found this comparison appropriate.
Political technologist, publicist, and civic activist Viktor Taran suggested that it is premature to draw conclusions from this agreement since the full text is not yet available. However, he emphasized that a similar agreement is sought by Washington with Moscow, and this turn of events is being closely monitored in Beijing.
Meanwhile, the editor-in-chief of "European Truth," Sergey Sidorenko, believes that there is little good for Ukraine in the document.
Earlier, "Telegraf" reported that Zelensky's office commented on the agreement regarding minerals from the U.S. The Office stated that the deal aims to address several issues, particularly security guarantees for Ukraine and fair distribution of revenues from future projects.
