Borrell: The U.S. has permitted Ukraine to use missiles with a range of up to 300 km for strikes against Russia.
Глава европейской дипломатии Жозеп Боррель

He stated this following the meeting of EU foreign ministers.

When asked why the U.S. decided to unblock long-range strikes for Ukraine at this particular moment, Borrell noted that it concerns distances of up to 300 kilometers.

“It’s not that much when talking about distance; it’s not a large distance, and it doesn’t go far into the country, but this is a decision by the Biden administration. Why they made this decision now, rather than before the elections? I don’t know,” the diplomat added.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials have yet to officially confirm that Washington has granted Kyiv such permission.

Additionally, according to Borrell, the EU foreign ministers did not reach a joint decision to lift restrictions on the use of Western weapons on Russian territory. Therefore, each country in the bloc makes its own decision.

What preceded this?

The New York Times, citing American officials, reported that President Joe Biden allowed Ukrainian forces to use long-range ATACMS missiles for strikes on Russian territory. This was later written by the news agency Reuters.

As explained by sources to journalists, the permission to use ATACMS was a response to Russia's decision to enlist North Korean troops for the war against Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelensky indirectly confirmed this information, stating that “the missiles will speak for themselves.”

Furthermore, a report from the French publication Le Figaro spread the information that France and the United Kingdom, following the U.S., have allowed Ukraine to use their long-range SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles for strikes on Russian territory. However, there is currently no mention of this in the Le Figaro material.
