This was stated by John Kirby, the White House communications advisor on national security, during a briefing.
“They (Ukrainian military — ed.) can use ATACMS for self-defense in case of immediate necessity, and it is clear that this is currently happening in the Kursk region,” he emphasized.
Kirby added that Washington has adjusted its stance and instructed Kyiv that they may use the missiles to strike “these types of targets.” The official noted that he would leave it to the Ukrainians to comment on what exactly they are targeting.
Recall that on November 19, some Ukrainian media reported that Ukraine has already used American ATACMS missiles to strike Russia. They allegedly targeted an arsenal near the city of Karachev in the Bryansk region.
On November 25, OSINT analysts suggested that the Ukrainian ATACMS missiles might have struck a Russian airfield in the Kursk region for the first time. Additionally, Russian air defense systems could have been destroyed as well.
