One of the awards was presented to Veronika Festryha. She shared that her great-great-grandmother, Ekaterina, saved a 9-year-old Jewish girl. Later, the girl changed her name and moved to Israel. Subsequently, she wrote memoirs about those times.
"For me, this award is an opportunity to connect with my past, with my family. It serves as motivation and a reminder of humanity," says Veronika.
The Ambassador of Israel to Ukraine, Mikhail Brodsky, noted that there are officially more than 2,700 righteous among the nations in Ukraine, but in reality, there are many more.
"Unfortunately, we do not know all the facts. But we are constantly searching for new information. Every year, we discover new families of the righteous among the nations," added the ambassador.
Previously, we shared the story of Yuriy Storozhynskyi, who was born in 1941 in the city of Brody to a Ukrainian-Jewish family. His life was forever changed by the tragedy of the Holocaust. At the age of two, he lost his parents and became an orphan.
