Rasmussen stated that Greenland could become independent if its residents desire it, but it is unlikely to become a U.S. state.
"We are fully aware that Greenland has its own ambitions. If they are realized, Greenland will become independent, although it is unlikely to have the ambition to become a federal state within the United States," emphasized the Danish Foreign Minister.
While speaking with journalists, he added that the increasing concern of the U.S. regarding security in the Arctic is "entirely justified" and is linked to the activities of Russia and China in the region.
"I do not believe we are experiencing a foreign policy crisis. We are open to dialogue with the Americans about how we can cooperate even more closely than we do now to ensure the realization of American ambitions," the minister added.
It is worth noting that Greenland is an autonomous constituent country within the Kingdom of Denmark and the largest island on the planet, located between the Arctic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.
