This was reported by the First Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration, Mykola Povoroznyk, during a roundtable discussion titled "Ensuring Reliable Operation of Public Transport During Air Alerts in Kyiv," as conveyed by a correspondent from Novini.LIVE.
Povoroznyk shared that the halting of public transport during air alerts in Kyiv causes significant damage. In 2024, the capital's budget is projected to incur losses of around 8 billion UAH due to such "downtime." This year, losses are likely to increase.
"When we talk about losses, they are present. Last year, approximately 8 billion UAH was allocated for subsidies to municipal transport. This year, the projected amount is over 11 billion UAH, with 9 billion UAH currently planned", the official stated.
Moreover, it is known that this meeting also addressed the role of public transport in ensuring resilience, defense capability, and economic development in Kyiv; an analysis of transport expenditures; and exploring ways to ensure the reliable operation of public transport during air alerts in Kyiv.
Recall that recently, the Kyiv City Military Administration made a statement regarding metro train operations on bridges during alerts. Before implementing any changes, the authorities will consider the military's opinion.
The day before, Kyiv City Council member Andriy Vitrenko announced that officials had prepared a decision regarding the cancellation of public transport stops during air alerts in Kyiv.
