Igor Boyko was severely injured while on duty in September of last year, resulting in the loss of his left limb. The man shares that he did not understand what had happened to him.
"An 82 shell hit — and it wounded me and my comrade. After the 'hit,' I grabbed the radio and reported that two soldiers were injured. I don’t remember the moment of the explosion; I didn’t understand what had happened. Just a click — and you’re lying down. They say it’s not scary to die because you don’t realize it. It happened — and that’s it," says Boyko.
In addition to losing a limb, the fighter sustained multiple shrapnel wounds. The defender mentions that he still feels the absence of his lost leg.
"Until I was shown a photo without my leg, I didn’t feel it. But now, four months after the injury, my leg is still with me. Even though I have a prosthesis, I still think I have a healthy leg," adds the soldier.
Today, Igor is undergoing rehabilitation at the Unbroken center, and he plans to travel around Europe with his family afterwards.
"I want to travel because I spent a year and a half in combat positions, and there was a lack of positive emotions," notes the Ukrainian defender.
