Trudeau Announces Resignation

"I intend to resign as party leader. And as Prime Minister after the party elects its next leader through a rigorous, nationwide competitive process", Trudeau stated.

According to him, he has already asked the president of the Liberal Party to initiate this process.

Trudeau emphasized that Canada deserves a real choice in the upcoming elections.

"I have come to realize that if I have to fight internal battles, I won't be the best option in this election", he explained.

It is known that Trudeau's popularity has declined recently due to a series of votes of no confidence against the government. He had promised to remain in office to lead the Liberals in the elections, but faced additional pressure from Donald Trump, who threatened to impose a 25% tax on Canadian goods.

Analysts believe that Trudeau's resignation will lead to calls for new elections to establish a stable government capable of engaging with the Trump administration.

Previously, Trump joked with Trudeau, suggesting that Canada could become the 51st state of the USA.
