It's more dangerous outside — the head of the Kyiv City State Administration on halting public transport.

This was stated by the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) Timur Tkachенко on Wednesday, January 29, during a roundtable discussion titled "Ensuring the Reliable Operation of Public Transport During Air Alerts in Kyiv," as reported by a correspondent from Novini.LIVE.

Safer Transport

According to Tkachенко, he examined the official documents that regulate the suspension of public transport during air alerts.

"I want to say that the first thing I did was analyze the situation based on the official documents and information I requested as the new head of the military administration, which led to the corresponding decision. It should be noted that, besides the decision itself, no analytical or informational materials were provided. The military’s position has not been officially presented today to facilitate the appropriate decision-making. Therefore, in my opinion, this issue needs to be investigated further," he stated.

The head of KMVA added that the safety of Kyiv residents must be prioritized above all else, but analysts point out that being outside poses a greater danger to a significant number of people than traveling on public transport.

"I want to emphasize that the safety of Kyiv residents is the top priority, and there can be no compromises on this matter. At the same time, it is essential to understand whether this decision truly contributes to the safety of citizens. There are specific analytical conclusions from relevant public organizations and professional transport experts indicating that large gatherings of people on the streets can create additional dangers. During an air alert, people should be in shelters or safe places," summarized Tkachенко.

We remind you that the first deputy chairman of KMVA, Mykola Povoroznik, noted during the roundtable that the suspension of public transport during air alerts in Kyiv causes significant financial losses.

We also reported that in Kyiv, there are currently no certified shelters that could be equipped at public transport stops. Authorities will consider the possibility of installing such structures and initiating funding as soon as it becomes feasible.
