Can safe bus stops be installed in Kyiv? The Kyiv City State Administration has provided a response.

On Wednesday, January 29, the director of the transport infrastructure department of the Kyiv City State Administration, Ruslan Kandibор, made this statement during a roundtable discussion titled "Ensuring the Reliable Operation of Public Transport During Air Alerts in Kyiv," as reported by a correspondent from Novini.LIVE.

Safe Stops in Kyiv

During the roundtable, the head of the budget commission, Andriy Vitrenko, asked the director of the transport infrastructure department whether any proposals had been made regarding the establishment of safe stops in the city of Kyiv.

Kandibор responded that the relevant department is handling civil protection issues, and currently, there are no certified structures that could be installed at the stops. He added that if such an opportunity arises, the department will initiate the allocation of funds for these purposes.

"After five years of working in the city council, you should have realized that the issue of civil protection falls under the jurisdiction of the civil protection department. There are currently no certified structures that could be installed at a stop. If the necessity for such structures is proven and the opportunity for their installation arises, we will initiate the allocation of funds to carry out this work," said Kandibор.

The possibility of using underground pedestrian crossings as makeshift shelters was also discussed. According to Kandibор, the State Emergency Service recently classified them as makeshift shelters without additional modifications. At the same time, the official noted that makeshift shelters must have access to water and seating areas.

Previously, the first deputy chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration, Mykola Povoroznyk, noted during the roundtable that the stopping of public transport during air alerts in Kyiv causes significant damage.

We also reported that as of today, there is a shortage of about 50% of drivers for public transport in Kyiv.
