This is reported by RMF24 and TVN24, citing the words of lawyer Romanowski.
The lawyer stated on social media that his client received international protection in Hungary "due to the actions of the Polish government and its subordinate National Prosecutor's Office, which violated his rights and freedoms."
According to Romanowski, he cannot expect a fair trial in Poland "due to the political bias of certain judges who openly support the current Minister of Justice."
On December 19, a court in Warsaw issued a European arrest warrant for the politician, who is accused of committing 11 crimes related to the management of the funds of the Ministry of Justice, which he previously led.
Hungary confirmed the granting of asylum to Romanowski. Initially, this was announced by the head of the Prime Minister's Office, Gergely Gulyás, and later, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also commented on it.
"All I know is that relations between Poland and Hungary are not the best, especially due to the harsh attack by the Polish Minister of Justice on the Hungarian government two days ago in Politico. That is what I know.", commented the Hungarian Prime Minister.
Orbán referred to an interview with Polish Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar for Politico, in which he stated that "under the current leadership in Hungary, it may be difficult to regain a good reputation in the EU."
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski declared that Hungary's decision to grant political asylum to Romanowski is "an act hostile towards the Republic of Poland and the principles of the European Union." He promised to announce Poland's decision today, December 20.
