99 members of the Senate voted in favor of Rubio's appointment — no one spoke against him.
Immediately after his confirmation, the new Secretary of State made a statement regarding the war in Ukraine. He mentioned that he cannot set a timeline for the end of the war, but emphasized that each side will be compelled to make "certain concessions."
"I cannot provide exact timelines, but I can say that when you conclude a conflict between two sides, neither of which can achieve their maximum goals, each side will have to give something up," Rubio believes.
Even before his confirmation, he stated that it is unrealistic to think that Ukraine will be able to drive Russian forces out of its territory. Therefore, according to him, Ukraine will have to make concessions, just as Moscow will.
He did not specify what concessions would be expected from Ukraine, but added that "the final decisions on what to agree to will be made by the countries involved in the conflict" — Russia and Ukraine.
Regarding a ceasefire in Ukraine, the U.S. Secretary of State also did not specify any timelines, acknowledging that it will be a complicated process; however, he stated that Trump has prioritized it for himself.
