Trump's Inauguration

On January 20 in Washington, the inauguration ceremony for the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, took place. This marks his second term as the head of the American state.

Initially, Trump and his wife Melania met with the former president Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the White House for tea. Following that, the politicians proceeded to the Capitol, where guests had already gathered.

Among those present were former U.S. presidents, including Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, who lost the presidential election to Trump in 2016, as well as leaders from other countries.

During the inauguration, the Republican delivered a speech highlighting the need to combat immigration and plans to colonize Mars, but he did not mention the war in Ukraine at all.

Arrest of Military Commanders

Law enforcement officials arrested former commanders of the operational-tactical group "Kharkiv": Yuri Halushkin, of the 125th separate territorial defense brigade, Arthur Gorbenko, and Ilya Lapin of the 415th separate rifle battalion of the 23rd separate mechanized brigade, on suspicion of failing to defend during the Russian military offensive in May 2024.

The suspects will be transported to Kyiv and informed of their suspicion regarding negligence in military service under martial law, which led to severe consequences (Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The former commander of the 415th battalion of the 23rd brigade will also face suspicion for organizing a voluntary abandonment of the battlefield (Article 429 of the Criminal Code). They all face up to 10 years in prison.

Additionally, GDBR officials arrested the former commander of the 155th separate brigade named after Anna of Kyiv, Dmitry Ryumshin. The troops from this brigade left their place of service without permission and also deserted during exercises in France.

Ryumshin is accused of inaction by military authorities, committed under martial law or in a combat situation, for which he faces up to ten years in prison.

In Kyiv, a 67-year-old man will be prosecuted for poisoning his common-law wife over several months, resulting in her death. Following her passing, he appropriated all her savings and car.
