Germany is supplying Ukraine with Songbird reconnaissance drones capable of operating in extreme conditions (video).

While in Germany the provision of long-range missiles to Ukraine is becoming a political issue, reconnaissance drones Songbird have been noted among the types of weapons supplied by the Federal Republic of Germany. This concerns over 400 drones that were sent at various times. Specific models were not disclosed.

As noted by ArmyInform, the manufacturer offers three versions of the Songbird drone: Songbird 60, Songbird 100, and Songbird 150. They differ in range, payload capacity, and flight times.

Specifications of Songbird Drones

  • Maximum payload: Songbird 60 – 1 kg / Songbird 100 – 2 kg / Songbird 150 – 4.4 kg
  • Maximum flight duration: 57/120/105 minutes
  • Maximum flight duration with maximum payload: 45/90/90 minutes
  • Range — 60/100/90 km
  • Maximum altitude — 2200/2000/5000 meters.

All models are capable of vertical takeoff and landing, which is convenient in field conditions. The Songbird 150, with its enhanced specifications, can survey up to 25 km in a single flight. Takeoff and landing can be automated, and a wide range of sensors, including LIDAR scanners, can be utilized. The camera features a 20x zoom, thermal imaging, and in case of lost communication with the operator, the drone stores information.

Among the features of the Songbird drone is its ability to operate in light rain, cold, and heat, even in wind speeds of up to 19 m/s.

Previously, "Telegraph" reported on Ukrainian drones utilizing fiber optics. They offer better connectivity—this method of connection has even been tested on ground drones.
