U.S. President Donald Trump believes that if America had not supplied weapons to Ukraine, the Russian-Ukrainian war would have "ended in two weeks."
This was discussed during the broadcast of the telethon "Unified News."
On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with his American counterpart Donald Trump. During their joint press conference, Trump criticized Zelensky for the provided weapons and equipment. He reiterated that the U.S. supposedly supplied Ukraine with weapons worth $350 million. However, the U.S. Department of Defense previously refuted this claim, stating that the actual amount was significantly lower.
"We gave you $350 billion: in weapons and equipment, you should be grateful. If it weren't for our weapons, this war would have ended right away, in two weeks," Trump declared.
In response, Zelensky remarked that he had already heard about the war ending "in three days" from [Russian leader Vladimir] Putin.
When asked if Trump plans to "send more weapons to Ukraine if there is no peace," he stated that the U.S. aims not to send a lot of weapons but to "end the war."
"The answer is yes. But I hope we won’t have to send a lot [of weapons] because I look forward to this (the end of the war - ed.) being done quickly," the U.S. president added.
During the meeting, Zelensky debated with Trump and Vice President JD Vance regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war. Trump asserted that Zelensky had no cards in his hands, to which Zelensky responded that he "did not come here to play cards."
Trump also added that Ukraine allegedly does not express gratitude for the assistance provided and "shows disrespect." He further stated: "Either you go for an agreement, or you exit it."
Trump announced that he would act as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia during peace negotiations. He believes that Putin "will keep his word" and will not attack again after a peace agreement with Ukraine is reached.
The U.S. president also dismissed the idea that Ukraine could join NATO as a result of a peace agreement but assured that Washington would try to return as much land to Ukraine as possible.
Meanwhile, Zelensky emphasized that there will be no ceasefire without security guarantees for Ukraine.
